GRANDPA JOHNSON with David

GRANDPA JOHNSON : ARTIST

Some of George Johnson's artistic genes must have slipped through to his grandson.
I suppose watching him paint as a young man and being exposed to his artwork left its mark on me.

With oils and watercolours he used very much of an impressionistic style. His chalk pastel and charcoal work was highly realistic. He did not have the time of day for 'chocolate box' or modern art. His grandson is little more tolerant though.

When Grandpa and Granny used to come to visit he invariably landed up reworking his pictures. Would upset my parents no end. He was 'reworking' the Fisherman scene and found he was short of Burnt Umber. This did not deter him, he merely dipped into the Marmite jar. To my knowledge its still there in the painting!
